From 2018 to 2023, coniferous roundwood production in Melanesia remained constant at 619.8 thousand m³. The domestic market volume, however, fluctuated due to shifting trade patterns. A notable increase in market size to 620.8 thousand m³ occurred in 2020, driven by a sharp drop in exports to 1.9 thousand m³ alongside a slight rise in imports.

The market contracted to 600.9 thousand m³ in 2021 as exports surged to 19.6 thousand m³ while imports fell to a low of 0.7 thousand m³. Recovery followed in the next two years, with the market reaching 616.7 thousand m³ in 2022 and 639.1 thousand m³ in 2023, the latter bolstered by a significant import jump to 22.1 thousand m³ and contained exports of 2.7 thousand m³.

By 2024, trade dynamics shifted again, with exports rising sharply to 34.7 thousand m³ and imports settling at 3.7 thousand m³, indicating continued volatility in international demand for Melanesian roundwood.
