The market for rigid PVC pipes and tubes in the Netherlands expanded from 84.1 thousand tons in 2018 to 92.7 thousand tons in 2019. This growth was driven by the increasing adoption of plastic piping systems, particularly PVC, due to their chemical resistance, durability, and cost-effectiveness in construction and agricultural sectors. Installers were increasingly switching to plastic systems like PEX and PVC because of their flexibility and faster installation.

After a contraction to 83.5 thousand tons in 2020, market volume recovered to 90.6 thousand tons in 2021, supported by rising focus on the circular economy and PVC recycling initiatives. However, from 2022 onwards, the introduction of stricter European directives on single-use plastics and preparations for the national circular plastic norm put pressure on producers, leading to a sharp drop to 67.4 thousand tons in 2022. The decline continued to 58.8 thousand tons in 2023, influenced by upcoming revisions to the Drinking Water Directive that will tighten requirements for materials in contact with drinking water, and by economic pressures on housing corporations due to rent freezes.

In 2024, the market rebounded to 68.0 thousand tons, marking a 15.6% increase from the previous year.

Following a two-year decline, the production volume of rigid plastic PVC tubes, pipes, and hoses in the Netherlands has rebounded. In 2021, the country produced 127.9 thousand tonnes, showing a modest increase of 2.7% from the previous year. The lowest volume was in 2020 at 124.5 thousand tonnes, with the largest drop of 3.3% also occurring in that year.

However, from 2018 to 2021, overall exports decreased by 10.3%, averaging an annual decline of 3.6%. The lowest export volume was in 2020 at 50,185 tonnes, with the largest drop of 10.3% also recorded that year.

From 2018 to 2021, Belgium, France, and Germany were consistently the top destinations for exports in kind, accounting for 82.7% of total flows. Belgium led with 38.7% of exports, followed by France at 32.6%, and Germany at 11.5%.
