After reaching 109.8 thousand tons in 2018, the market for raw bovine and equine hides and skins in Uzbekistan declined to 102.2 thousand tons in 2019, followed by stabilization at 102.6 thousand tons in 2020. During this period, the underlying cattle population was influenced by cross-border movements: a large-scale outflow of live cattle from Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan began in 2019, and in 2020, Kyrgyzstan multiplied its exports of cattle to Uzbekistan by 9.2 times.

A sustained growth phase started in 2021, with the market expanding to 107.3 thousand tons that year. This increase was supported by regional factors, including China's rising beef purchases from Russia, which incentivized cattle herd expansion. In 2022, Uzbekistan's cattle inventory reached 13.555 million head, driving production up to 111.3 thousand tons. The market continued to grow in 2023, reaching 116.1 thousand tons, aided by the launch of the World Bank's livestock sector development project in Uzbekistan for 2022-2026.
