Concurrently, rising imports of Chinese footwear dampened domestic demand for natural leather, affecting local tanneries. This combination lowered exports and supported market volume growth despite stable domestic production, with volume stabilizing near 9.5 тыс. т in 2020.

From 2021, market volume contracted to 7.0 тыс. т as export volumes rose sharply and imports fell. The country's cattle ranching sector, supported by government repopulation and dairy programs, ensured a steady supply of hides, but shifts in trade flows drove the market's downward trend. A modest recovery to 6.8 тыс. т occurred in 2023, though volumes remained below pre-2021 levels.

By 2024, Honduras remained a minor participant in the global raw hides trade, with export value around US$168 thousand, reflecting the market's limited scale. It continues to depend on national livestock output and external demand, primarily from Mexico and the United States, without major regulatory changes reported.
