Between 2018 and 2023, Iran's rapeseed oilcake market showed considerable volatility, with volume peaking at 228.1 thousand tons in 2020 before falling to 151.6 thousand tons in 2022. Persistent international sanctions and currency restrictions severely limited imports of oilseeds, the primary raw material for domestic crushing plants, causing production to contract in 2019. The sharp rebound in 2020 was supported by the wider use of efficient extraction methods, such as hexane solvent and cold pressing, and a consumer shift towards healthier, unsaturated oil-based products.

A renewed decline occurred in 2021 and 2022, with market volume dropping to 151.6 thousand tons. This was largely attributable to additional regulatory changes affecting oilseed import and export procedures under the country's sanctions regime, which further strained raw material supplies. By 2023, the market registered a slight recovery to 160.2 thousand tons, suggesting a degree of adaptation to the constrained operating environment.
