After starting at 7.7 million tons in 2018, the market contracted the following year as record rapeseed oil exports diverted supply away from domestic consumption. A significant expansion of sown areas beginning in 2020 reversed this trend, boosting production and lifting the market size back above 8 million tons.

From 2021 onward, production continued to grow driven by larger sown areas and the adoption of advanced seed technologies like Clearfield. The introduction of a ban on rapeseed seed exports in April 2022 further increased domestic availability, helping the market reach 13.2 million tons that year. However, in 2023, record-high global vegetable oil prices and currency depreciation stimulated a sharp rise in rapeseed oil exports, pulling the market size down to 10.8 million tons despite another record production year.
