The market volume for fresh or chilled pumpkins, squash and gourds in Ukraine fluctuated considerably from 2018 to 2023. After peaking at 1 348 thousand tons in 2019, it contracted over the next two years, dropping to 1 270 thousand tons in 2020 before partially recovering to 1 319 thousand tons in 2021.

A sharp downturn followed in 2022, with the market shrinking to 1 106 thousand tons. In 2023, there was a modest stabilization as volume edged up to 1 121 thousand tons, though it remained well below the levels seen prior to 2022.

From 2017 to 2020, Ukraine ranked as the world's third-largest producer of pumpkins, squash, and gourds.

After two years of growth, Ukraine's production of pumpkins, squash, and gourds declined. In 2020, the country produced 1 268 K t, marking a moderate year-over-year decrease of 5.8%. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production increased by 8.9%, which translates to an annualized growth rate of 2.9%. The peak was reached in 2019 with 1 346 K t, while the largest annual increase occurred in 2018 at 14.9%.

Ukraine's production value for pumpkins, squash, and gourds fell for the second year in a row. In 2020, the output was valued at 456.2 M $ US, down 17.7% compared to the previous year. The highest value was recorded in 2018 at 642.9 M $ US, which also saw the largest annual increase of 38.8%.

Ukraine's export volume of pumpkins, squash, and gourds rose for the third consecutive year. In 2020, the country exported 2 178 t, representing a significant year-over-year gain of 70.3%. From 2017 to 2020, exports grew by 105.3%, equating to an annualized rate of 27.1%.

Ukraine's import volume of pumpkins, squash, and gourds increased for the third year in a row. In 2020, imports reached 3 624 t, up 6.6% from the year before. Between 2017 and 2020, imports grew by 82.1%, corresponding to an annualized rate of 22.1%.
