Production of fresh or chilled pumpkins, squash and gourds in Sudan began the period at 34 754 tonnes in 2018, with a market volume of 34 520 tonnes. This level was bolstered by the implementation of a new investment law offering incentives to attract foreign investors into agriculture, alongside Sudan's settlement of international debts and the establishment of a dedicated agricultural financing portfolio. However, in 2019 both production and market volume fell to 33 538 tonnes and 33 520 tonnes respectively, a decrease of about 3.5%.

From 2020 to 2023, the market entered a phase of stability, with production fluctuating mildly between 33 800 and 34 050 tonnes. Output rose to 33 842 tonnes in 2020, reached 34 044 tonnes in 2021, dipped slightly to 33 808 tonnes in 2022, and settled at 33 898 tonnes in 2023. Market volume followed a similar path, aided by minimal imports, and stood at 33 904 tonnes in 2023.

Throughout the period, government policies continued to shape the sector. By 2024, Central Bank of Sudan measures aimed at agricultural financing, coupled with a large domestic consumer market of around 33 million people and expanding trade with neighbouring countries, remained key contextual factors for the pumpkin, squash and gourds market.

In 2018, Sudan's production of pumpkins, squash, and gourds reached its highest level at 34 754 tons. The following year, in 2019, output fell to its lowest point of 33 538 tons, marking a 3.5% decline. Production then recovered slightly in 2020 to 33 842 tons, representing a modest 0.9% year-over-year gain.
