The market volume for polyurethanes in primary forms in Poland showed considerable volatility in physical terms between 2018 and 2024. After reaching a peak of 65 125 t in 2019, consumption fell sharply by 17.5% to 53 747 t in 2020. A recovery phase followed, with the market climbing to 63 427 t by 2023 before moderating to 60 731 t in 2024.

In value terms, the market exhibited a different pattern, declining from $214.8 million in 2018 to $178.5 million in 2020. A pronounced rebound of 26.6% occurred in 2021, lifting the market value to $226.0 million. This was followed by slower growth and a slight contraction, ending the period at $223.9 million in 2024.

Over the full seven-year span, the physical market size contracted moderately from 63 546 t to 60 731 t, characterized by significant annual swings rather than a steady trend.

In 2020, output was valued at 78 563 thousand US dollars, representing a 9.8% decrease compared to the previous year. The peak value was recorded in 2019 at 87 096 thousand US dollars, while the largest annual increase occurred in 2018 at 29.9%.

After two years of expansion, Poland's production of polyurethane in primary forms declined in volume terms. In 2020, the country produced 29 448 tonnes, marking a moderate 9.4% decrease from the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, production grew by 37.1%, equivalent to an annualized growth rate of 11.1%. The highest volume was achieved in 2019 with 32 498 tonnes, while the largest annual increase took place in 2018 at 25.3%.

Poland's exports of polyurethane in primary forms increased for the second consecutive year in volume terms. In 2020, exports reached 15 717 tonnes, representing a 9.1% increase compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports grew by 24.5%, with an annualized growth rate of 7.6%. The lowest volume was recorded in 2018 at 12 252 tonnes, which also saw the largest decline of 3.0%. The most significant increase occurred in 2019 at 17.6%.

Between 2017 and 2020, Russia, Ukraine, and Germany were the leading destinations for Poland's exports of polyurethane in primary forms by volume. Russia accounted for 30.0% of exports, Ukraine for 13.3%, and Germany for 9.1%. Together, these three countries represented 52.4% of total export flows.

Poland's exports of polyurethane in primary forms increased in value terms in 2020, reaching 44.4 million US dollars, which was 1.9% higher than the previous year. From 2017 to 2020, exports grew by 8.5%, with an annualized growth rate of 2.7%. The highest value was recorded in 2018 at 46.8 million US dollars, which also saw the largest increase of 14.4%. The most significant decline occurred in 2019 at 6.9%.

Over the 2017-2020 period, imports decreased by 14%, with an average annual decline of 4.9%. The peak volume was recorded in 2018 at 48 898 tonnes, which also saw the largest increase of 5.0%.

Between 2017 and 2020, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands were the largest suppliers of polyurethane in primary forms to Poland by volume. Germany accounted for 47.9% of imports, Italy for 14.5%, and the Netherlands for 9.1%. Together, these three countries represented 71.5% of total import flows.
