Earlier Report Observations

Between 2018 and 2022, production of processed liquid milk in Poland increased from over 2 million tons to 2.2 million tons. This growth was supported by a rise in domestic raw milk output, including a 3.5% increase in 2018 and a further 5.8% surge in July 2022. Export demand also played a role, with shipments of dairy products to China growing by more than 50% during the first three quarters of 2019.

The physical volume of the domestic market fluctuated, reaching a peak of 1.6 million tons in 2022 before declining to 1.5 million tons by 2024. High inflation and rising energy costs reduced household purchasing power, leading to a 1.7% drop in milk and dairy product consumption in 2022. Despite the lower volumes, the market's value rose from $729 million in 2018 to over $1.1 billion in 2023, driven by substantial price increases for items like butter and skimmed milk powder.

Consumer preferences shifted towards more processed, value-added dairy products after 2021, partly influenced by rising meat prices. The industry's financial performance strengthened, with the sector's net profit nearly tripling in early 2024 compared to the previous year, even as production volumes modestly eased.
