In 2022, market volume surged to 565.3 thousand tonnes. This growth was driven by Lithuania's role as the primary destination for Latvian milk exports, which accounted for 85% of Latvia's milk exports and significantly boosted imports into the country.

From 2023, the market entered a contraction phase, falling to 529.6 thousand tonnes in 2023 and 512.7 thousand tonnes in 2024. The decline was triggered by a 25% year-on-year increase in milk prices to consumers in early 2023, which dampened demand, while intensifying competition from private label products in expanding discount chains further shaped market dynamics.
