From 2018 to 2022, the market volume of primary sugar crops in Kazakhstan declined from 504.5 thousand tonnes to 305.7 thousand tonnes. The industry was supported by four sugar beet processing plants at the start of the period, but regional variations in capacity utilization contributed to the reduction in output.

Production rebounded sharply to 510.2 thousand tonnes in 2023, primarily due to a 23% increase in the sugar beet harvest. This growth occurred despite challenges such as higher prices for imported sugarcane, which affected the sugar industry but did not prevent the recovery in crop production.
