From 2018 to 2020, the soybean market volume in Kazakhstan experienced significant shifts. It grew to 291 thousand tons in 2019, supported by the active involvement of state-owned companies in production and trade. The following year, volume dropped to 240 thousand tons as COVID-19 pandemic disruptions affected logistics and supply chains.

In 2021, despite a lower soybean harvest reducing domestic output, market volume increased to 250 thousand tons, driven by rising consumer demand for high-protein foods which boosted imports. Subsequently, the opening of the Chinese market for Kazakh soybeans significantly raised export volumes. Coupled with domestic production challenges, this contributed to a decline in market volume to 216 thousand tons by 2023.

After two years of growth, Kazakhstan's soybean production declined. In 2020, the country produced 260.6 K t of soybeans, which is 7.6% less than in 2019. Between 2017 and 2020, production increased by 3.3%, averaging an annual growth rate of 1.1%. The highest production level was recorded in 2019 at 282.2 K t, with the largest annual increase of 10.5% also occurring that year.

From 2017 to 2020, China, Uzbekistan, and Sweden were the main destinations for Kazakhstan's soybean exports in kind, together accounting for 83.5% of the total. China led with 36.4%, followed by Uzbekistan at 28.1%, and Sweden at 19.0%.
