Earlier Report Observations

The German market for preserved vegetables, fruit and nuts experienced notable fluctuations in physical volume between 2018 and 2024. After a marginal increase to 544.6 thousand tons in 2019, market volume declined to 532.9 thousand tons in 2020. A significant expansion followed in 2021, with volume reaching 577.1 thousand tons, the highest point in the period. This growth, however, was not sustained, as volume fell to 561.2 thousand tons in 2022 and dropped further to 499.8 thousand tons in 2024.

In value terms, the market showed a similar pattern of volatility. The market value decreased from $972 million in 2018 to $937 million in 2019, stabilized around $938 million in 2020, and then rose sharply to $1.019 billion in 2021. A correction occurred in 2022, bringing value down to $979 million, before a slight recovery to $986 million in 2024.

Overall, the market contracted in physical terms over the full period, from 542.3 thousand tons in 2018 to 499.8 thousand tons in 2024, while the market value in 2024 remained close to the 2018 level. The peak in both volume and value in 2021 marked a temporary high point amidst a generally declining trend for volume.
