Earlier Report Observations

Between 2018 and 2020, the market for prepared or preserved pineapples in Turkey expanded from 4 403 t to 5 961 t. This growth was driven by rising domestic production, which increased from 3 808 t to 5 274 t, supported by the adoption of improved planting and propagation techniques that enhanced yields. Simultaneously, growing consumer awareness of health and nutrition boosted demand for canned pineapple products, particularly those with lower sugar content, stimulating both local output and imports.

After reaching a peak of 6 021 t in 2021, the market contracted to 4 597 t in 2022 as domestic production fell sharply to 3 560 t. During this period, the government introduced support programs for pineapple growers and enforced mandatory labeling rules for sugar content, while large firms invested in expanding production capacity. These measures aimed to strengthen the local industry and inform consumers, but did not offset the production decline, leading to increased imports to partially fill the gap.

In 2023, production partially recovered to 3 850 t, but imports plummeted to 358 t, resulting in a further market reduction to 4 157 t. Throughout the period, consumer preferences continued to shift toward low-sugar and additive-free options, shaping product offerings and market dynamics.
