However, in 2022, increased global demand for beef exports stimulated Norwegian exports to 72 tons, reducing domestic availability and lowering the market volume to 2 464 tons. By 2023, the market stabilized at 2 512 tons, while dietary guidelines from the Norwegian Directorate of Health recommending a limit of 500 grams per week for red and processed meat, along with strengthened animal welfare requirements, began influencing consumer demand and production costs.

By 2024, the market showed signs of stabilization after fluctuations, supported by market regulations including inventory management and import quotas. In 2025, increased livestock and quality subsidies under the Agricultural Agreement, combined with low inventory levels, created market shortages. Concurrently, shifts in consumer behavior towards health and sustainability continued to shape demand, while utilized EU import quotas and supply delays from SACU countries affected product availability.

In 2021, the country produced 2 388 tonnes, marking a modest increase of 7.8% compared to the previous year. The lowest production level was recorded in 2019 at 2 127 tonnes, when output fell by 3.0%.

In 2021, the country exported 18.0 tonnes, representing a sharp drop of 27.4% from the year before. The peak export volume was reached in 2019 at 30.7 tonnes, which saw a significant increase of 19.8%.

From 2018 to 2021, Sweden was the primary destination for Norway's exports of prepared or preserved beef and offal in volume terms, accounting for 75.4% of total shipments. The remaining exports were spread across several smaller markets.

In 2021, exports amounted to 107 thousand US dollars, showing a steep decline of 49.7% compared to the previous year. Between 2018 and 2021, exports dropped by 73.9%, with an average annual decrease of 36.1%. The highest value was recorded in 2019 at 433 thousand US dollars, which included a 5.9% increase. However, the largest decline occurred in 2020, when exports fell by 51.0%.
