Earlier Report Observations

At the start of the period, Turkey's domestic poultry meat market volume experienced a slight contraction, declining from 4.0 million tons in 2018 to 3.9 million tons in 2020. This occurred against a backdrop of active export expansion, as the country solidified its position as a leading regional exporter by entering new markets like Iraq and Uzbekistan. High per capita chicken meat consumption, exceeding 17 kg, provided steady domestic demand, but a greater share of production was directed abroad. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 caused some logistical disruptions, yet the industry's rapid adaptation and the growth of online sales cushioned the impact on consumption.

From 2021 onward, the market entered a growth phase, reaching 4.34 million tons in 2022. This increase was driven by a significant rise in production capacity, supported by state-backed investments and high production standards. The output growth enabled simultaneous expansion of exports, which surpassed USD 1 billion in 2022, and met rising domestic demand fueled by consumer preference for healthy and hygienic products. The development of online sales channels and cold-chain logistics also improved product accessibility.

In 2023, the market volume stabilized at 4.33 million tons. Despite a slight dip in production, the market was supported by growing demand for organic and natural chicken meat, alongside continued government support and regulatory improvements in the sector.
