"Middle Africa" region includes following countries:
Earlier Report Observations
From 2018 to 2020, the poultry meat market volume in Middle Africa declined from 1 124 thousand tons to 819 thousand tons. This decrease was driven by ongoing import bans in countries such as Senegal, which restricted frozen poultry inflows, and the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, which disrupted production chains and led to a sharp drop in domestic output to 217 thousand tons.
Starting in 2021, the market recovered, reaching 1 019 thousand tons, and by 2023 grew to 1 086 thousand tons. The growth was supported by increased local production, which exceeded 400 thousand tons by 2022, due to protective measures including import bans. In 2022, the Democratic Republic of Congo imposed a ban on frozen poultry from Poland on sanitary grounds, and Benin announced plans to prohibit imports of frozen chicken and eggs from the end of 2024, encouraging domestic poultry farming development.
By 2024, several countries in the region, including Senegal, Benin, and DRC, had reaffirmed or tightened poultry meat import bans aimed at protecting local producers and ensuring food security. These measures continue to shape the market structure by limiting imports and supporting domestic production.
