Output then fell to 116.5 thousand tons in 2019, largely due to fluctuations in international feed prices that increased production costs. A rebound followed in 2020, with production rising to 135.0 thousand tons, driven by heightened demand during the COVID-19 pandemic and increased public and private investment in processing facilities.

Market volatility continued from 2021 to 2023. Production dipped to 126.0 thousand tons in 2021, again affected by regional feed price movements that pressured margins. A sharp decline occurred in 2022, with output dropping to 97.7 thousand tons, primarily due to persistent logistical and cold-chain infrastructure challenges that hampered distribution efficiency. The market recovered partially in 2023, reaching 115.5 thousand tons, indicating a return to growth.
