Between 2018 and 2021, Egypt's poultry meat market volume expanded significantly from 2.96 million tons to 5.08 million tons, supported by a steady rise in domestic production which increased from 2.91 million tons to 5.02 million tons over the same period.

The market contracted to 4.23 million tons in 2022 as high retail prices for meat constrained consumer demand. It recovered to 4.57 million tons in 2023, driven by a shift in consumption patterns after a sharp rise in red meat prices made poultry a more affordable protein choice for many households.

Exports reached their lowest point in 2019 at 201 tonnes, then peaked in 2018 at 580 tonnes, resulting in a 2.9-fold difference between these years. In 2020, exports from Egypt amounted to 311 tonnes, a 54.8% increase compared to the previous year. The largest decline occurred in 2019, falling by 65.3%.
