Earlier Report Observations

The fresh potato market in the CIS region contracted from 35 978 thousand tons in 2018 to 31 628 thousand tons by 2021. This decline was particularly sharp in 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted supply chains and altered consumer demand, leading to an 8% reduction in market volume that year. The downward trend continued into 2021, driven by market saturation which resulted in lower retail sales.

Market volume rebounded by 5% to 33 222 thousand tons in 2022, signaling a recovery from the previous years' contractions. By 2023, the market stabilized at 33 306 thousand tons, supported by investments from large agribusinesses in potato processing lines, which created an additional demand channel for fresh potatoes as raw material.
