Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2020, the Russian potassium hydroxide market experienced significant volatility. Growth in 2019 was supported by the modernization of production facilities and the introduction of membrane electrolysis technology, which improved efficiency and output volumes. However, in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic led to a sharp contraction of the market to 47 thousand tons, disrupting supply chains and production activity.

Recovery began in 2021 with the launch of new membrane technology production at the Berezniki Chemical Plant 'Soda-Khlorat', which doubled output. This contributed to a market volume increase to 51 thousand tons. In the following years, sanctions and import restrictions from EAEU countries affected trade patterns, causing a market dip in 2022. However, continued expansion of production capacity and further modernization allowed the market to grow to 52.8 thousand tons in 2023.

In 2024, market volume fell to 43.4 thousand tons, partly due to the ongoing impact of sanctions on import supplies and logistics. Production remained stable at approximately 38.8 thousand tons, led by the Volga Federal District. By 2025, production rose to 40.7 thousand tons, reflecting industry resilience, though comprehensive market volume data for this year is not available.
