Earlier Report Observations

The Spanish market for portable electric lamps opened the period at 2.98 million units in 2018, supported by the Energy Efficiency Regulation for outdoor lighting which accelerated the adoption of LED technology, alongside broader urbanization and construction activity. Volumes then contracted to 2.22 million units in 2019 and 2.11 million units in 2020.

A recovery phase began in 2021 as the market grew to 2.37 million units, driven primarily by rising electricity prices and shifts in household habits following the pandemic, which increased demand for energy-efficient lighting. Expansion continued into 2022, reaching 2.75 million units, bolstered by the launch of new LED product lines, sustained promotion of efficient lighting under the European Ecodesign Directive, and strong demand for outdoor luminaires linked to public infrastructure projects.

After a decline to 2.49 million units in 2023, the market stabilized at 2.53 million units in 2024. This recent period has been characterized by growing demand for durable and multifunctional portable LED lamps, fueled by high electricity generation costs, as well as a replacement wave for older LED devices that reached their end-of-life.
