Earlier Report Observations

The Uzbek market for plums and sloes from 2018 to 2023 showed variable dynamics, largely influenced by export fluctuations. Increased demand in external markets, particularly in the EAEU countries, drove higher exports in 2019, which reduced domestic availability. Subsequently, logistics improvements and sustained external demand supported strong export volumes in 2022, even as production expanded.

Production of plums and sloes in the country grew from 130 thousand tons in 2020 to 178 thousand tons in 2023, aided by the capacity expansion of key producers. This output growth, however, did not always translate into a larger domestic market, as a significant portion of the harvest was directed abroad. By 2023, the market volume stabilized at around 129 thousand tons.

Uzbekistan's production of plums and sloes declined for the second year in a row. In 2020, the country produced 130.1 K t, marking a 2.2% decrease from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production grew by 12.2%, averaging an annual increase of 3.9%. The highest output was in 2018 at 134.9 K t, which also saw the largest yearly rise of 16.3%.
