Earlier Report Observations

The Hungarian market for plastic doors and windows expanded from 1.09 million units in 2018 to 1.25 million units in 2019. This growth was primarily driven by the introduction of stricter energy efficiency requirements for façade windows from January 1, 2018, which set a Uw value limit of 1.45 W/m²K and raised the bar for plastic products. Manufacturers responded with multi-chamber, energy-saving profiles, and demand for premium triple-glazed windows increased, supported by leading profile makers such as VEKA.

Market volume dipped to 1.01 million units in 2020. From 2021 onward, state subsidies for home renovation under the family protection program provided non-repayable grants for window replacement, boosting demand. The scheme was expanded in 2022, offering up to 3 million HUF to families with children in small settlements, which helped push the market to a peak of 1.67 million units that year.

After the 2022 high, the market contracted to 1.16 million units in 2023 and further to 1.03 million units in 2024.
