Between 2018 and 2020, the Slovak market for plastic doors and windows contracted in physical volume from 2.4 million to 1.5 million units, while its monetary value showed greater resilience, declining only from 210 million to 183 million USD. This stability was underpinned by steady consumer preference for high-quality class A profiles and energy-efficient solutions, including triple glazing offered at the price of double glazing. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 further heightened homeowner interest in renovations, supporting demand for products with long service life and easy maintenance.

By 2022, regulatory changes promoting building energy efficiency, coupled with sharply rising energy prices, made investments in advanced triple-glazed windows with warm-edge spacers economically compelling. Consequently, although physical sales volume fell further to 1.1 million units, the market's value soared to 259 million USD, reflecting a pronounced shift toward more technologically sophisticated and higher-priced products. The introduction of new design variants, such as grey PVC profiles, also enhanced the aesthetic appeal and competitiveness of plastic windows.

In 2023, the physical market volume recovered to 1.5 million units before a slight contraction to 1.4 million units in 2024. The monetary value followed a downward trend in these two years, reaching 229 million and 218 million USD respectively, yet remained substantially above pre-2022 levels.

The highest production value was recorded in 2018 at 298.1 million US dollars, which represented a 7.3% increase from the previous year. However, in 2019, production saw its largest decline of 9.1%. Overall, between 2017 and 2020, production decreased by 4%, equating to an annualized rate of 1.4%.

Plastic doors, windows, and frames production in Slovakia declined for the third consecutive year. In 2020, 1.482 million units were produced, showing a slight fall of 1.3% compared to 2019. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production decreased by 12.8%, which translates to an annualized rate of 4.5%.

After a two-year drop, plastic doors, windows, and frames exports from Slovakia increased in 2020. Exports reached 850,000 units, representing a limited gain of 9.8% year-over-year. The lowest export volume was recorded in 2019 at 774,000 units, which saw the largest decline of 19.8%. Between 2017 and 2020, exports decreased by 26.4%, equating to an annualized rate of 9.7%.

From 2017 to 2020, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Austria were the primary buyers of plastic doors, windows, and frames from Slovakia. The Netherlands accounted for 36.5% of exports in kind, Switzerland for 18.1%, and Austria for 9.5%. Together, these three countries represented 64.2% of total exports in kind.

After a two-year decline, the value of plastic doors, windows, and frames exports from Slovakia increased in 2020. In 2020, imports amounted to 901,000 units, showing a robust drop of 19.1% relative to the previous year. The highest import volume was recorded in 2018 at 1.817 million units, which saw a 16.3% increase. However, in 2019, imports experienced the largest decline of 38.7%. Overall, between 2017 and 2020, imports decreased by 42.3%, equating to an annualized rate of 16.8%.
