In 2018, the Peruvian pig offal market underwent a significant regulatory change when SENASA recognized the equivalence of Spain's inspection system, formally opening the market to imports of Spanish pork and offal. This establishment of a new import channel laid the groundwork for future trade flows, contributing to the market's foundation at the outset of the period.

From 2019 to 2023, the market expanded steadily, with its total volume rising from 23,606 t to 27,752 t. This growth was primarily driven by a consistent increase in domestic production, which climbed from 16,477 t to 20,335 t over the same span. Import levels varied during these years, while exports remained minimal.

The regulatory opening continued to facilitate trade, and by 2024, imports of pig offal reached 9,218 t, the highest level recorded in the period. This sustained access to Spanish products underscored the lasting impact of the market access measures initiated in 2018.

Peru's pig offal production volume declined after two years of growth. In 2019, production reached its peak at 17 577 tons, but by 2020 it had fallen to 17 227 tons, marking a slight contraction of 2.0%. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, overall production increased by 7.6%, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 2.5%. The most significant year-on-year increase occurred in 2019, when production rose by 6.7%.

Pig offal production in Peru declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the output was valued at 34 495 thousand US dollars, representing a substantial drop of 23.7% compared to 2019. From 2017 to 2020, production decreased by 13.7%, with a compound annual growth rate of -4.8%. The highest value was recorded in 2018 at 45 272 thousand US dollars, which also saw the largest increase of 13.2%.

Pig offal exports from Peru declined for the second year in a row. In 2020, exports totaled 272 tons, reflecting a sharp decrease of 58.2% compared to the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, exports fell by 55.5%, equating to an annualized decline of 23.7%. The peak export volume was in 2018 at 724 tons, which also experienced the largest increase of 18.4%.

From 2017 to 2020, Angola and Vietnam were the two leading markets for Peru's pig offal exports, together accounting for 82.7% of total exports in volume. The remaining exports were distributed among a variety of other countries.

Pig offal shipments from Peru declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, export value reached 545 thousand US dollars, showing a significant drop of 67.5% compared to the previous year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, exports decreased by 64.4%, with a compound annual growth rate of -29.1%. The maximum value was recorded in 2018 at 1 990 thousand US dollars, which also saw the largest increase of 30.3%.

Throughout 2017 to 2020, Angola and Vietnam remained the key partner countries for Peru's pig offal exports in value terms, together representing 80.1% of total export flows. Other partners accounted for the remainder.

Peru imported approximately 6 724 tons of pig offal in 2020, showing a small rise of 0.7% compared to the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, imports decreased by 4.4%, equating to an annualized decline of 1.5%. The lowest import volume was in 2019 at 6 680 tons, which saw the largest decline of 14.7%. In contrast, the highest volume was in 2018 at 7 832 tons, with the largest increase of 11.3% recorded that year.

From 2017 to 2020, Argentina, Canada, and the United States were consistently the main sources for Peru's pig offal imports in volume. Argentina accounted for 58.2% of imports, Canada for 19.2%, and the United States for 14.2%, together making up 91.7% of total import flows.

Foreign pig offal supplies to Peru declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, imports amounted to 16 353 thousand US dollars, indicating a slight decline of 2.2% over the past year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, imports decreased by 2.2%, with a compound annual growth rate of -0.7%. The maximum value was recorded in 2018 at 19 546 thousand US dollars, which also experienced the largest decline of 14.5% in 2019 and the largest increase of 17.0% in 2018.
