Earlier Report Observations

In 2018, the pig fat market in MENA reached its peak size of 1 609 tons. This was supported by a prior trend of increasing import volumes and rising market value. Price variations were observed depending on the country of origin, with Poland being a higher-cost supplier. Furthermore, reports indicated the entry of products containing pig fat into the Egyptian market during this year, potentially influencing availability.

Following the 2018 peak, the market volume contracted to 1 413 tons in 2019, before recovering to 1 563 tons in 2020. However, a downward trend resumed thereafter. Domestic production, which had risen to 1 223 tons in 2020, began to decline from 2021 onward.

The market continued to shrink through 2023, falling to 1 068 tons. This overall reduction coincided with a sharp decline in imports, which dropped from 526 tons in 2018 to 159 tons in 2023, significantly affecting total market supply.
