Earlier Report Observations

The persimmons market in CIS countries showed notable volatility between 2018 and 2020. In 2018, market volume reached 249.2 thousand tonnes, supported by growing consumption and the expansion of e‑commerce channels, which improved fruit accessibility. The following year, a focus on import substitution reduced imports sharply, causing market volume to contract to 201.2 thousand tonnes despite rising domestic production. The COVID‑19 pandemic in 2020 disrupted logistics and supply chains, which curtailed exports, while import‑substitution measures continued to bolster local output, helping market volume recover to 214.6 thousand tonnes.

Regulatory changes drove further shifts from 2021 to 2023. Stricter sanitary and phytosanitary requirements in 2021 affected trade flows, contributing to higher exports and a slight market decline to 205.4 thousand tonnes. Simplified customs procedures introduced in 2022 facilitated a surge in imports, pushing market volume to a peak of 285.8 thousand tonnes. In 2023, new labeling and traceability rules, together with ongoing production localization, created barriers for imports and coincided with increased exports, leading to a sharp drop in market volume to 188.1 thousand tonnes. During this period, consumer interest in organic and environmentally friendly produce also emerged, shaping new market segments.
