Earlier Report Observations

Persimmon production in Asia grew steadily from 4,075 thousand tons in 2018 to 4,773 thousand tons in 2023. This expansion was driven by the introduction and promotion of improved sweet varieties like 'Taiquu', which extended the supply season and encouraged industry upgrading. Regional initiatives, such as those in Gaoming, further supported this trend by expanding cultivation areas for quality cultivars and strengthening local supply chains.

Domestic market consumption increased from 3,953 thousand tons in 2020 to 4,516 thousand tons in 2023. The growth in demand was supported by advances in deep-processing technologies, leading to a wider range of products like persimmon cakes and dried persimmons. While the market experienced widening price volatility, it operated in a state of oversupply with production consistently exceeding immediate domestic needs.

In 2024, imports rose significantly to 73 thousand tons while exports remained stable. The industry continued to develop with increased policy support for rural e-commerce and brand building. Technological breakthroughs, such as the release of new grafting rootstocks, and the physical expansion of production facilities, like the greenhouse complexes in Mitun village, enhanced overall capacity and market presence.
