From 2018 to 2021, production of frozen vegetables in Serbia fell from 55,000 t to 35,000 t, reducing the market volume from 32,670 t to around 25,000 t. The relatively high output in 2018 was supported by the growing adoption of greenhouse and vertical farming techniques and increased consumer interest in organic produce and healthy eating habits.

A temporary recovery occurred in 2022, with production rising to 45,478 t and market volume expanding to 35,373 t.

In 2023, production declined to 37,084 t and the market contracted to 26,239 t, a drop largely attributed to drought and extreme weather conditions that significantly reduced vegetable yields and affected crop quality.

Serbia's production of frozen vegetables, excluding potatoes, legumes, and maize, declined for the second year in a row. In 2020, the country produced 35,000 tonnes, marking a 22.2% decrease compared to the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, production fell by 22.2%, with an average annual decline of 8.0%. The highest output was recorded in 2018 at 55,000 tonnes, which also saw the largest increase of 22.2%.

Serbia's production value of frozen vegetables, excluding potatoes, legumes, and maize, dropped for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the output was valued at 38,790 thousand US dollars, representing a significant 11.1% decrease from 2019. Between 2017 and 2020, production value declined by 6.3%, with an average annual reduction of 2.2%. The peak value occurred in 2018 at 54,461 thousand US dollars, which also experienced the largest increase of 31.5%. The most substantial decline was in 2019, at 19.9%.

Serbia's exports of frozen vegetables, excluding potatoes, legumes, and maize, decreased for the second straight year. In 2020, exports totaled 17,109 tonnes, a sharp 27.4% drop from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports fell by 31.5%, with an average annual decrease of 11.9%. The highest export volume was in 2018 at 28,213 tonnes, which also saw the largest increase of 12.9%.

From 2017 to 2020, the main markets for Serbia's exports in volume terms were Russia, accounting for 26.5% of exports, Germany at 17.7%, and Hungary at 7.0%. Together, these three countries represented 51.1% of total export flows.

Between 2017 and 2020, export value decreased by 17.6%, with an average annual decline of 6.2%. The peak value was recorded in 2018 at 27,936 thousand US dollars, which also experienced the largest increase of 21.5%. The most significant drop occurred in 2019, at 18.2%.

Between 2017 and 2020, import volumes grew by 59.6%, with an average annual rise of 16.9%. The largest increase was in 2018 at 38.4%, while the most notable decline occurred in 2019, at 3.9%.

Between 2017 and 2020, import value surged by 80.5%, with an average annual growth of 21.8%. The largest increase was in 2018 at 54.2%, while the most significant decline was in 2019, at 7.7%.
