Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 16.7%, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 5.3%. Export volumes reached their peak in 2018 at 59 908 tonnes and dropped to their lowest point in 2019 at 8 201 tonnes, representing a 7.3-fold difference between these years. In 2020, Africa exported 9 732 tonnes of peas, showing a strong 18.7% increase compared to 2019. The largest decline occurred in 2019 with an 86.3% drop, while the largest increase was recorded in 2018 at 106.0%.

From 2017 to 2020, Africa's pea exports in volume terms were distributed across a diverse range of trading partners. India accounted for 17.3% of exports, the Netherlands for 8.1%, and the United Kingdom for 6.3%. Together, these three countries represented just 31.8% of total export flows, while the remaining 68.2% was spread among numerous smaller markets.

However, over the entire period from 2017 to 2020, export value decreased by 30.2%, equivalent to an average annual decline of 11.3%. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 22 401 thousand US dollars, with the largest decline of 33.6% occurring in 2018.
