Earlier Report Observations

The market for fresh pears in Zimbabwe expanded significantly from 2018 to 2021, with total volume growing from 2 927 tonnes to 4 668 tonnes. This rise was supported by increasing domestic production, which reached 3 976 tonnes in 2021, and a notable surge in imports, which rose from 139 tonnes to 692 tonnes over the same period.

After peaking in 2021, the market volume contracted to 3 782 tonnes in 2022 as domestic production fell sharply to 2 832 tonnes. Imports, however, continued to grow, reaching 950 tonnes. In 2023, the market recovered to 4 162 tonnes, driven entirely by import growth to 1 271 tonnes, while production saw only a modest increase to 2 891 tonnes.
