Earlier Report Observations

The market for fresh peaches and nectarines in Central Asia showed significant volatility from 2018 to 2023. In 2018, the start of active exports from Uzbekistan's southern regions, with varieties like Big Bang and Plane Gold, laid the groundwork for the region's export potential, coinciding with a market volume of 221.8 thousand tons. Consumption then surged by 30% to 289.2 thousand tons in 2019, but fell to 235.5 thousand tons in 2020 as exports jumped and imports contracted.

Sustained export growth from Uzbekistan continued to shape the domestic market. In 2022, the country maintained active shipments, with over 200 tons exported by late May, supporting a rise in external sales to 68.7 thousand tons. This contributed to a market reduction to 245.0 thousand tons. The following year, a high harvest and low prices in Uzbekistan further boosted exports to 79.5 thousand tons, while the market volume declined to 234.5 thousand tons.

By 2024, the export landscape expanded notably with Azerbaijan significantly increasing shipments, 97% of which went to Russia. Meanwhile, in Russia, consumer demand for peaches and nectarines softened amid a 34% price rise in May-July 2024. An abundance of fruit in Central Asian and Russian markets during August highlighted seasonal availability, and a new cooperation agreement on plant quarantine between Russian and Azerbaijani authorities may influence future supply regulations.
