The particle board market in Morocco grew to 147 thousand m³ in 2019 before declining to 126 thousand m³ by 2021. The 2020 contraction aligned with the global COVID-19 pandemic, which substantially increased wood production costs and affected panel pricing. During these years, authorities introduced and later extended a safeguard measure on imports of coated particle board to protect domestic manufacturers.

A sharp rebound occurred in 2022, with market volume reaching 165 thousand m³. This surge was driven by massive government investments in housing construction, which planned to build 60 million housing units over seven years, directly boosting demand for building materials like particle board. Morocco's diverse range of international suppliers also helped limit negative impacts from the war in Ukraine on wood supply. However, the market fell to 97 thousand m³ in 2023 amid the continued safeguard policy and industry calls to enhance local production resilience through co‑production models with European suppliers.

In 2024, the safeguard measure on coated particle board imports was extended for another three years. Meanwhile, furniture manufacturers, including the industrial group Richbond, expressed concern that potential safeguard measures on coated fiberboard could disadvantage local furniture production. Globally, lower prices for chemicals and wood chips benefited panel producers, though wood prices remained volatile due to strong construction demand and localized supply issues.
