From 2018 to 2020, Morocco's paddy rice market volume expanded steadily from 64,773 tons to 67,647 tons, supported by the government's Plan Maroc Vert. This program invested 134 million dirhams, increased cultivated area to over 7,200 hectares, and raised milling capacity, with the Gharb region producing 75% of the national harvest. A sectoral contract for 2014-2020 helped organize producers and improve productivity, enabling domestic production to cover about 72% of consumption needs.

Market volume dropped sharply to 52,648 tons in 2021 and further to 50,850 tons in 2022, as production fell due to a severe drought in 2022. Global trade tensions, including export restrictions from India, also affected import availability. Recovery began in 2023, with market volume rising to 57,216 tons as the agricultural sector rebounded from the drought, supported by the launch of the 2023‑2024 agricultural campaign and continued modernization under the Plan Maroc Vert.
