Earlier Report Observations

Production of oriented strand board in Asia soared from 2 035 thousand m³ in 2018 to 11 606 thousand m³ in 2023, driving market volume up from 5 322 thousand m³ in 2020 to 12 284 thousand m³ in 2023. During this period, imports fell from 1 368 thousand m³ to 926 thousand m³, indicating that domestic output increasingly supplied the expanding market.

In 2024, imports jumped to 1 823 thousand m³, signaling strengthened demand. This surge was supported by major construction projects in the region, including the Merdeka PNB118 in Malaysia and the GIFT Diamond Tower in India, which increased OSB use for structural applications. Additionally, the market benefited from a global preference for sustainable building materials and product innovations such as the OSB T&G Roofing Board launched by EGGER Group UK, which enhanced installation efficiency and durability.
