ECOWAS's orange production has increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the region produced 1 346 thousand tons of oranges, representing a significant year-over-year gain of 29.6%. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production decreased by 6.3%, with a compound annual growth rate of 2.1%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2018 at 1 014 thousand tons, which also saw the largest decline of 29.4%.

Exports oranges from ECOWAS

ECOWAS's orange imports have increased for the third consecutive year. In 2020, the region imported a total of 12 895 tons of oranges, equivalent to an abrupt advance of 28.9% from the previous year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, imports increased by 101.6%, with a compound annual growth rate of 26.3%.

From 2017 to 2020, the country breakdown of imports in kind was scattered. South Africa accounted for 15.9% of imports, Morocco for 10.0%, and Portugal for 8.2%, together making up 34.1% of total flows, with no single partner standing out as clearly dominant.
