Orange juice production in Asia has increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, Asia produced 435.1 million liters of orange juice, marking a 4.0% rise compared to the previous year. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 10%, which translates to an annualized rate of 3.2%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2018 at 358.8 million liters, with the largest decline of 9.3% occurring that same year. In contrast, the largest increase of 16.5% was observed in 2019.

Exports orange juice from Asia

Orange juice exports from Asia have risen for the second year in a row. In 2020, exports reached 125.2 million liters, up by 22.0% from the prior year. Over the 2017-2020 period, however, exports decreased by 3.6%, with a compound annual growth rate of 1.2%. The lowest export volume was recorded in 2018 at 94.7 million liters, which also saw the largest decline of 27.1%.

From 2017 to 2020, Asian orange juice was exported to a wide range of markets. The Netherlands accounted for 3.3% of exports in volume, Libya for 3.2%, and the United States for 1.9%, totaling just 8.3% of all exports. The remaining 91.7% was distributed among numerous smaller destinations.

Asia's orange juice export value declined in 2020, totaling 154.8 million US dollars, a drop of 43.4% year-over-year. Over the 2017-2020 span, exports decreased by 20.6%, with a compound annual growth rate of 7.4%. The highest value was recorded in 2019 at 273.3 million US dollars, which also experienced the largest increase of 44.2%.

From 2017 to 2020, imports decreased by 2.9%, with a compound annual growth rate of 1.0%. The peak import volume was in 2019 at 316.0 million liters, which also saw the largest increase of 4.6%.

From 2017 to 2020, Brazil, Spain, and the United States were the leading sources of orange juice imports to Asia in volume terms. Brazil contributed 41.6%, Spain 7.8%, and the United States 4.9%, together making up 54.2% of total imports.
