Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2020, Poland's oat market volume expanded from 1.0 million tons to 1.5 million tons. This growth was supported by continuous increases in sown area, as Poland consolidated its position as the world's fourth-largest oat producer. In 2018, the government introduced detailed production technology regulations, including nitrogen fertilizer limits and spring cultivation restrictions to optimize water use.

After peaking in 2020, the market contracted to 1.4 million tons in 2021 and further to 1.37 million tons in 2022-2023. Rising demand for oats for food and feed purposes encouraged planting, but plant disease pressure and a sharp increase in fertilizer prices in 2022 raised production costs. Simultaneously, growing consumer interest in oat-based products as a market phenomenon helped sustain consumption.

By 2023, the market stabilized around 1.37 million tons, with domestic production remaining above 1.5 million tons annually, supported by ongoing varietal improvements and efficient farming practices.
