The Austrian oats market volume expanded from 75 788 t in 2018 to a peak of 88 725 t in 2021, driven by a consistent increase in domestic production from 74 280 t to 89 440 t over the same period. Import volumes also rose, supporting overall availability.

A contraction began in 2022, with the market size falling to 76 359 t, followed by a sharp decline to 45 788 t in 2023. This was primarily due to a significant drop in production to 60 380 t and a concurrent rise in exports, which reached 22 892 t in 2023.

For 2024, import and export flows were 10 544 t and 12 965 t respectively. The market is influenced by international grain market conditions, including competitive pressure from the Black Sea region and good harvest prospects in the US, which have put downward pressure on prices. At the same time, sustained consumer demand for healthy and organic food products continues to shape the market.

From 2017 to 2020, production value rose by 8.2%, averaging an annual growth rate of 2.7%. The largest decline occurred in 2018 at 17.0%, and the largest increase was in 2019 at 35.0%.
