The market contracted to 20.0 thousand tons in 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted transport and supply chains, while rising inflation and mobility restrictions affected overall food consumption. A strong recovery followed in 2021, with the market volume rising to 24.3 thousand tons, driven by sustained consumer demand for fresh, healthy foods and an anticipated increase in household food expenditure.

Market growth continued into 2022, reaching 27.9 thousand tons. This occurred against a backdrop of historically high inflation which pressured household spending on food. In 2023, the market volume declined to 22.6 thousand tons. During this period, the Ministry of Agriculture and private associations signed agreements to improve the competitiveness of the agricultural sector, and increased remittances from abroad provided support for general consumption levels.
