Between 2018 and 2021, the volume of the not frozen prepared potato market in Finland contracted from 59 734 t to 50 518 t, while its value increased from 111.1 million US dollars to 119.4 million US dollars. This shift was driven by changing consumer preferences towards more convenient, ready-to-eat potato products, which command a higher price per unit. This trend was reinforced by a major producer, Jepuan Peruna, refocusing its business on finished potato products and phasing out raw potato offerings from 2022 onward.

Market volume recovered to 63 014 t in 2022, supported by the increased household use of prepared potato products. A significant price-driven expansion occurred in 2023 when Finnish potato harvests hit a century-low and domestic stocks were at record lows, causing potato product prices to rise across Europe. Consequently, the market's value surged to 142.0 million US dollars despite stable volume. In 2024, an improved spring potato harvest enhanced domestic supply, but rising production costs—particularly for fertilizers and transport linked to the EU Emissions Trading System—kept prices elevated, resulting in a market value of 143.6 million US dollars at a volume of 62 456 t.
