From 2018 to 2020, the market volume of not carded or combed cotton in Kyrgyzstan showed moderate changes. In 2018 and 2019, production remained stable at 99.4 thousand tonnes annually, supported by the implementation of the state concept for cotton sector development (2017-2021) and the active role of major cotton companies like 'Cotton Textile Factory', 'Textilshchik', and the 'Bagysh Pakhta' corporation. However, persistent industry issues such as low purchase prices and reduced sown areas limited growth, leading to a slight market contraction to 74.8 thousand tonnes in 2019. In 2020, despite a drop in production to 96.8 thousand tonnes, a significant reduction in exports to 18.3 thousand tonnes increased domestic availability, pushing the market volume up to 78.4 thousand tonnes.

The period from 2021 to 2023 saw more pronounced swings. Market volume fell to 72.7 thousand tonnes in 2021 as production declined to 89.0 thousand tonnes. A turnaround occurred in 2022 when a 13.8% increase in the raw cotton harvest boosted production to 101.8 thousand tonnes. Coupled with a temporary ban on the export of cotton introduced in March 2022, which curtailed overseas sales, the domestic market volume surged to 87.4 thousand tonnes. This expansion was further supported by high global cotton prices. In 2023, following the lifting of the export restriction, exports rebounded sharply to 24.0 thousand tonnes, while production fell to 84.4 thousand tonnes, causing the market volume to drop sharply to 60.4 thousand tonnes.

Kyrgyzstan's production of not carded or combed cotton has declined for the second year in a row. In 2021, the country produced 88 976 tonnes, representing an 8.1% year-over-year decrease. Over the 2018-2021 period, exports decreased by 29.7%, with a compound annual growth rate of -11.1%. The highest export volume was recorded in 2019 at 24 565 tonnes. The largest decline happened in 2020 with a 25.3% drop, while the largest increase was in 2019 at 6.0%.

The lowest value was in 2020 at 26 425 thousand US dollars, which also saw the largest decline of 26.1%.
