The market for non-coniferous sawnwood in Moldova began the period at 15 342 m³ in 2018, but declined over the following two years to 12 103 m³ in 2020. Legislative amendments in 2018 altered the rules for transporting and registering sawnwood, creating an environment that reportedly favored illegal timber trade. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 further reduced economic activity and demand for construction materials.

A rebound occurred in 2021, lifting the market volume to 14 653 m³. However, the war in Ukraine from 2022 onward disrupted regional supply chains and increased raw material costs, contributing to market stagnation that year at 14 397 m³. The conflict's continuing effects were a key factor in the severe market contraction to 8 281 m³ by 2023.

Moldova's non-coniferous sawnwood production declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the country produced 8 520 m³, which represents a 4.2% decrease compared to 2019. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production fell by 10.6%, averaging an annual decline of 3.7%. The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 12 113 m³, marking a 27.1% increase from the previous year. However, this was followed by the largest decline of 26.5% in 2019.
