Earlier Report Observations
The non-coniferous sawnwood market in Guinea expanded to 29 039 m³ in 2019 from 28 130 m³ in 2018. This growth coincided with the start of large-scale mining projects with annual capacities of 40-60 million tonnes, which stimulated broader economic activity and demand for wood in infrastructure development. Additionally, the AgriFARM project launched in late 2018 aimed at improving agricultural resilience, likely boosting local demand for wood in farming and construction.
Market volume remained stable around 29 000 m³ through 2020 and 2021, then dipped to 28 347 m³ in 2022. During this period, the government increased support for the rural sector to enhance production, encouraging the resumption of wood cutting for local supply. Agreements between the government and the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts of Guinea (CCIAG) were also signed to guarantee market supply and price stability for essential goods, influencing wood distribution.
In 2023, the market rebounded to 29 833 m³, a 5.2% increase from the previous year. This growth was directly supported by a 1.6% rise in forestry activities, linked to the managed resumption of wood cutting for the local market. The continuation of government-CCIAG protocols, which included tax reliefs, further supported commercial dynamics, with a third protocol signed in early 2024 to maintain supply and price stability.
