Non-coniferous sawnwood production in Côte d'Ivoire remained stable at around 871 thousand m³ in 2018 and 2019, supported by the entry of new milling capacity such as the Rama sawmill established in 2017. Market size hovered near 820 thousand m³. However, production began to decline in 2020, dropping to 850 thousand m³, as ongoing deforestation estimated at 300,000 hectares annually eroded the raw material base, while maintained restrictions on raw log exports under the 1995 decree kept sawmills as the primary export channel.

A sharp contraction followed from 2021 to 2022. Production fell to 435 thousand m³ in 2022, and the domestic market volume shrank to 304 thousand m³. This collapse was driven by a growing scarcity of wood on the local market and the progressive closure of sawmills across the country, which severely constrained supply. Concurrently, a spike in sawnwood exports to 291 thousand m³ in 2021 diverted a significant portion of production away from the domestic market.

A modest recovery occurred in 2023, with production increasing to 453 thousand m³ and the market volume rising to 345 thousand m³. Exports continued to gradually decline, improving the availability of wood for local consumption. The industry structure, dominated by small transformation units with a few large often-foreign companies, and ongoing reforestation efforts with species like teak, provided some underlying support, though the market remained well below its earlier levels.
