From 2018, wood production in Côte d'Ivoire began a steady increase, supported by new legal commitments for timber operators requiring environmental preservation and reforestation, the expansion of commercial plantations covering about 430 000 hectares, and the entry of new sawmills like Rama, which started in 2017 with modern equipment to improve output quality and reduce waste. These developments helped raise production from 7 556 Kt in 2018 to 7 593 Kt by 2021.

The gradual growth continued through 2022 and 2023, with market size reaching 7 608 Kt and 7 624 Kt respectively. This period saw further formalization of the domestic wood market in the central region, organized with EU support to promote legal sourcing, and the enforcement of a decree mandating prior authorization from the Ministry of Water and Forests for any forestry exploitation, reinforcing state control and supporting stable production volumes.

By 2024, key sector initiatives included the implementation of the Voluntary Partnership Agreement on FLEGT to ensure timber legality and sustainability, the registration of nearly 500 wood professionals by the ministry, and the creation of a national association for wood artisans. These steps aimed to structure the timber value chain for long-term governance.
