From 2018 to 2023, Ghana's production of non-coniferous roundwood grew from 50.3 million m³ to 56.9 million m³. This increase in output, however, did not translate into a corresponding rise in domestic market volume, which remained relatively stable between 49.8 and 51.7 million m³ over the same period. The stability in local consumption was underpinned by a dramatic expansion in exports, which surged from a negligible level to over 5.7 million m³ by 2023.

The growth in exports became particularly pronounced from 2021 onward, with shipments abroad absorbing a significant portion of the additional production. This shift led to a temporary dip in the domestic market volume to 49.7 million m³ in 2021, but internal demand demonstrated resilience, recovering to 51.2 million m³ by 2023 as production continued its upward trend.

In 2020, Ghana produced 51,961 thousand cubic meters of non-coniferous roundwood, marking a 4.3% increase from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production grew by 6.6%, with an average annual growth rate of 2.1%. The most significant decline occurred in 2019, when production fell by 0.9%.

Market performance showed notable fluctuations during this period. Exports reached their lowest point in 2019 at 53.4 thousand cubic meters, then surged to a peak of 225.4 thousand cubic meters in 2020—a 4.2-fold increase. This represented a dramatic rise of 321.9% compared to 2019. The largest decline was recorded in 2019, with a drop of 19.4%.

Between 2017 and 2020, India, Vietnam, and China were the top buyers of non-coniferous roundwood from Ghana, accounting for 51.9%, 16.5%, and 12.9% of exports in volume, respectively. Together, these three countries made up 81.2% of Ghana's total exports in kind.

Non-coniferous roundwood exports from Ghana increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, export value amounted to 72,181 thousand US dollars, reflecting a sharp gain of 387.8% compared to 2019. From 2018 to 2020, exports grew by 643.4%, equating to an annualized rate of 95.2%.

Over the 2017-2020 period, India, China, and Vietnam led as the largest buyers of non-coniferous roundwood from Ghana in value terms, with shares of 55.8%, 19.2%, and 13.1%, respectively. Their combined share reached 88.1% of total exports in value.

From 2017 to 2020, China, Chile, and the United States were the main sources for non-coniferous roundwood imports to Ghana, accounting for 53.2%, 24.3%, and 21.9% of imports in volume, respectively. Together, they formed 99.4% of total import flows in kind.
