Production of non-coniferous roundwood in Eastern Africa increased gradually from 315.7 million m³ in 2018 to 329.2 million m³ in 2023. This growth was facilitated by the expanded involvement of smallholder timber producers, who helped offset declines in traditional plantations, and by the steady supply from large state-owned plantations such as the Sao Hill plantation in Tanzania.

Sustainable forest management and certification schemes like FSC gained prominence throughout the period, helping to secure market access and maintain production despite continuous pressure on forest resources from agricultural expansion and overexploitation. The focus on value addition and sustainable plantation forestry in areas like Tanzania's Southern Highlands further supported the market's development.

While no major new production facilities or legislative shifts were reported, smallholder growers actively explored foreign markets, reflecting evolving trade dynamics. Global factors only indirectly influenced the sector, with domestic efforts centered on sustaining timber supply through certified and community-based forestry.

Non-coniferous roundwood production in Eastern Africa has increased for the third consecutive year. In 2020, 319.8 million cubic meters were produced, remaining virtually unchanged compared to the previous year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 2.1%, with a compound annual growth rate of 0.7%.
